#whatonwhatsgood Express Review (by: Jovin Tardif)

We start off the movie with two breakups.  Noah (Scott Eastwood) dumps Emma (Jenna Slate) and Anne (Gina Rodriguez) ends a six-year relationship with Peter (Charlie Day).  Emma and Peter happen to work in the same building and meet in a stairwell. They start discussing their past relationships and eventually, find out on social media that their exes have new relationships. The new friends decide to work together to break up their new exes relationships and win them back. Peter says he will try to convince Noah to leave Ginny (Clark Backo), while Emma will seduce Logan (Manny Jacinto) into cheating on her.

Will Emma and Peter succeed or will something else happen?

Overall, “I Want You Back” is a very easy and fun rom-com movie to watch.  There are plenty of cute and funny moments in the film.

The Cast of 'I Want You Back' discuss the film and their characters 1/25/2022

Charlie Day who plays Peter discusses being in the romantic comedy "I Want You Back"

“I was thrilled to be in a romantic comedy because I’m such a fan of so many of them.  I loved this script and the structure of the story and thought it would be a great thing to be a part of.  And it was exciting for me to play a more grounded, well-rounded human being.”

Jenny Slate who plays Emma discusses Charlie Day who plays Peter

“Charlie is perfect to play Peter because first of all, he’s very funny. I don’t know if you’ve heard that.  He’s got this irrepressible spunky energy, and he plays Peter with such a sweet realness.”

Gina Rodriguez discusses her character Anne

“I loved the idea of playing a character who was blaming another human being for her own lack of following through on what she wanted.  Relationships are tough, but Anne doesn’t take responsibility for that part of her life and I enjoyed dealing with that aspect.”

Manny Jacinto discusses his character Logan

“Anne and Logan met at the school and I think we bonded very quickly because we’re both very passionate about the craft.  He ends up in an interesting and very unexpected love triangle between Anne and Emma, and it becomes kind of a roller coaster between those three.”

Elizabeth Berger discusses the cast

“I love this cast.  They each brought a different dynamic and unique energy to the table, and it was exhilarating to watch it all come together.”

Director Jason Orley discusses "I Want You Back"

“For me, the idea of the movie was always a contemporary story told in a timeless way.  It’s about these characters and their journey, beginning with the breakup and then the surprising moments that lead to the end, which I won’t spoil.  And it’s about the fun you have along the way.”
