#whatonwhatsgood Express Review (by: Jovin Tardif)

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (2022) is a movie directed by Derek Drymon and Jennifer Kluska.
It stars Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kathryn Hahn, Jim Gaffigan, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, Brian Hull, Fran Drescher, Brad Abrell, Tyler Blevins, Genndy Tartakovsky, Asher Bishop and Victoria Gomez.

This is the fourth installment in the Hotel Transylvania series.

I suppose you will be entertained by this animated film. There are a few funny moments.  I'm not sure if you will find this movie as entertaining as the previous ones.

In Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (2022), Dracula is going to retire. It seems like he might leave the hotel to Mavis and her husband Johnny. Dracula doesn’t trust Johnny.  He tells him that he would have to be a monster to have a chance of getting the hotel.

Van Helsing’s mysterious new invention (“Monsterfication Ray” or zapper) transforms Dracula, Frankenstein, and Griffin into humans and Johnny into a monster.

Can everyone find a way to switch to themselves before their transformations become permanent?

The animated film has a nice message.  You should accept people for who they truly are.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania Interviews 12/8/2021

Selena Gomez discusses her character Mavis

"I think being yourself is the coolest thing you could be.  We're not meant to be the same I think that's what we should remind ourselves that we are cool just the way that we are, even if you're like me and you're not cool you think you're cool.

If I can be any monster from film history...I'd want to be King Kong.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is about embracing your uniqueness and embracing family, no matter what they look like and enjoying each other, and trusting each other."

It’s so hard to say goodbye to Mavis, a character I’ve played for so long, but it feels right because this film really does bring the story full circle.  It’s a big, crazy adventure – the transformation idea is so much fun – and it takes all of our characters to a part of the world that we don’t usually get to see in movies. We’re going out with a bang.”

Andy Samberg who plays Jonathan "Johnny" Loughran discusses Hotel Transylvania: Transformania

"Hotel Transylvania: Transformia in 3 adjectives... I would say Monstery, hilarious and naked.  If I can be any monster from film history... I would want to be Godzilla"

David Spade who plays Griffin discusses Hotel Transylvania: Transformania

"If I can be any monster from film history...I like Godzilla.  The old version. He's a little clumsy.  You definitely need insurance.  When he's around he literally breaks everything but he seems like a good guy. Godzilla's pretty strong, and he has fire.  So yeah, I'll take Godzilla.

I didn't really know what my character was going to look like.  It was nothing like what I thought it would be.  I don't even know what I thought it looked like.  I guess I was expecting Prince Harry. It was way funnier the way they drew it."

Keegan-Michael Key who plays Murray discusses Hotel Transylvania: Transformania

"I think, in regard to fitting in the best thing you can do is really be true to yourself.  Find people who accept you for who you are.

If I can be any monster from film history...I would probably pick Godzilla.  Godzilla is my boy.

They sent me pictures of Murray the mummy. I was pleasantly surprised.  It was really interesting to watch because he was smaller than I thought he'd be.  He was way shorter than I thought.

The plot of the movie... Jim Gaffigan's character Professor Abraham Van Helsing has this invention called the "Monsterfication Ray". It goes haywire, and it backfires.  Drac and his friends are turned into humans. When the ray hits Johnny, Johnny turns into a monster.  Everybody's kind of mixed-matched. They don't know what to do.  They have to figure out how to switch themselves back and they don't have much time.  If they don't figure out how to switch themselves back they'll all stay the way they are.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformia in 3 adjectives... I would say adventurous, weird, and heartfelt."
