#whatonwhatsgood Express Review (by: Jovin Tardif)

"'The Last Tourist' tackles overtourism and how it disturbs wildlife, the earth, and vulnerable populations.

Holiday hotspots are reaching a breaking point in terms of numbers.  The film mentions that travel rates have increased from 25 million people annually in 1950 to 1.6 billion in 2020.

The documentary conveys that tour operators, travel companies, and cruises are persuading you on how to spend your money.  This leaves the local communities that heavily rely on the tourism industry with nothing.

Social media could also be a reason why individuals need to go to certain places. They also need that "selfie" to prove it.  But what will we do to get that photo?  There is footage from hidden cameras showing tourists applauding and taking photos of animals performing for their pleasure while being tortured behind the scenes.

The documentary also shows how certain tourists behave on vacation. There are images of tourists going into restricted areas and destroying the environment in order to get that perfect photo.

There is a lot more to see in this film.  I highly recommend that you watch it.  If you get a chance, check it out and let me know your thoughts.  Let me know if you think we need to change the way we travel."
