#whatonwhatsgood Express Review (by: Jovin Tardif)
In this true-crime documentary, we meet celebrity restauranteur Sarma Melngailis. She was the queen of vegan food. She ran a New York vegan restaurant called 'Pure Food and Wine' with Hollywood A-Listers such as Howard Stern, Owen Wilson, Alec Baldwin, and former President Bill Clinton frequently visiting her establishment.
...Then she meets con-man Shane Fox aka Anthony Strangis online (Words with Friends).
In this series, Melngailis tells you her side of the story and tries to explain how this all happened. She claims that Shane (Anthony) said he was a wealthy Navy Seal, who can make her and her dog Leon immortal.
The truth is he is a high-level con man with a gambling problem.
She ends up marrying him.
“Bad Vegan” really digs into how he brainwashes her over time. She states that she gave him tons of money and stopped paying her employees in order to prove her love to him.She proclaims that she ended up being a fugitive when the couple got caught in Tennessee after ordering a Domino’s pizza.
You don't get Shane Fox's aka Anthony Strangis side of the story in this Netflix series.
It's definitely a crazy story. If you like Netflix's "The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Conman," and "The Tinder Swindler," you will probably enjoy this true-crime documentary series as well.
