#whatonwhatsgood Express Review by: What On What's Good - Jovin Tardif
Senior Year with Rebel Wilson is a pretty easy-going movie to watch.Basically what happens is in the 2000s, Stephanie, (Rebel Wilson) a high-school cheerleader, sadly ends up in a coma before her prom. She wakes up 20 years later thinking she is still a teenager (mentally she is still 17). When she finally realizes that she is an adult (37 years old) she still wants to continue her life in high school. The question is ... Is today's high school the same as before? Have the kids changed? Will Stephanie become prom queen & popular again? What I liked about the film was the throwback to the many 90's teen romcoms that I grew up watching. They even used some similar ideas from the 90s teen movies.I must say they were pretty spot on with the fashion that Rebel was wearing. You can't deny that some of the jokes in the film were laugh-out-loud funny. My favourite scene was when the father (Chris Parnell as Jim Conway) and the librarian (Sam Richardson as Seth) were discussing the dos and don'ts before prom night.I think if you have a pretty good sense of humor, you will enjoy this comedy from #netflixLet me know your thoughts.
Cast members discuss working with Rebel
“Rebel, working with you on SENIOR YEAR was honestly one of the most wonderful acting experiences I’ve ever had. Thank you. Rebel, you’re a fantastic cheerleader/dancer and if you ever decide to form a cheerleading/dance squad please keep me in mind. Rebel, your tantrum in the scene when I take away your phone is just brilliant. I thought you might be going a little too over the top when we shot it, but nope. Not a bit. It’s hilarious.”
— CHRIS PARNELL
“Rebs!! Omg can you believe we finished our SENIOR YEAR?! You’re super generous and so funny and I loved getting to play your BFF! You made me laugh every day. Remember when I chased you through traffic (ok it wasn’t traffic irl, it was on a green screen but it was still nutz)? So many great memories. You will forever be my queen!Love you! xo Marth (aka Mary).”
— MARY HOLLAND
“WORKING WITH REBEL WAS TRULY ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF MY CAREER AND I HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO WORK WITH HER NOT ONCE BUT TWICE! I FIRST MET REBEL WHEN WE DID ‘THE LITTLE MERMAID’ TOGETHER AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL! I REMEMBER HOW SWEET AND EXTREMELY HUMBLE SHE WAS. WE USED TO SIT BACKSTAGE AND TALK ABOUT THEATRE TOGETHER AND HER TAKING THE TIME TO GET TO KNOW ME REALLY MEANT A LOT. SO WHEN I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH HER AGAIN I WAS ELATED! FILMING THIS MOVIE WITH HER WAS HONESTLY A BLAST! NOT ONLY IS SHE ONE OF THE MOST GENUINELY KIND PEOPLE YOU’LL EVER MEET, SHE’S ALSO THE FUNNIEST. DOING IMPROV BACK AND FORTH WITH HER WAS A DREAM! SHE’S HILARIOUS IN THISMOVIE AND I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING ALONGSIDE HER AGAIN! IF IT SEEMS LIKE THIS CAST IS ALL BEST FRIENDS ON-SCREEN THAT’S BECAUSE WE REALLY ARE! I COULD TALK FOREVER ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE HER BUT I WILL LEAVE IT AT THIS… REBEL WILSON IS A GEM AND I FEEL LUCKY TO CALL HER FRIEND.”
— JOSHUA COLLEY
“My favorite thing about Rebel would have to be she’s just as ridiculously hilarious and giving in person as she is in every movie I’ve seen.”
— ZAIRE ADAMS
“Rebel’s willingness to be vulnerable, passion for what she does, and excitement to grow really was vital in my growth as a person. The message that rang true over all was: “Consistency over perfection”. And I know that is a message as old as time. But when Rebel shared her experiences with us (the younger cast) it actually clicked.”
— MICHAEL CIMINO
“Rebel, you are the most determined, talented, generous & badass lady I know. Ain’t no one who makes me laugh like you do! Xox”
— ALEX HARDCASTLE
“Rebel you’ve been an absolutely stunning person to work with! Thanks for making my twenty *****th birthday such a blast on set and for brunch in the city! You’re well worth a quarantine!”
— MOLLY BROWN
“Working with Rebel is one of the greatest experiences an actor could ask for... not only will your stomach hurt from laughing, but you will be consistently blown away by the generosity and unfathomable stories that come out of this woman’s mouth. She is truly the world’s greatest badass-lawyer-improvextraordinaire, and will always be #MYFrumaSarah.”
— ANA YI PUIG
I had a great day with Rebel. A fast new friend. Smart lady. Very talented and funny of course. She would always fire ideas out for me to say when we were shooting and we chatted about everything and anything! It was super fun!
— ALICIA SILVERSTONE
Easily, one of the most notable things about Rebel is her sense of humor. Truly unmatched. (Also her kindness and generosity - anyone who has the honor of working with her is showered with love and goodies :)). I still remember when my best friend and I hid behind a tree just so we could get a sneak peek at Rebel’s improv on a night shoot - and we could not stop laughing. We ended up getting caught (obviously) but my time on SENIOR YEAR has been filled with nothing but incredible memories - and a large part of it is due to Rebel Wilson.”
— ANGOURIE RXI
“I adore Rebel and working with her is always a treat. Not only is she the queen of comedy, but she’s also an insanely smart, badass lawyer AND one of the kindest, most generous people I know. Every day we worked together I learned something new about creativity, professionalism or just a crazy fact about her (she’s had a wild life and her stories are epic - you should ask for one sometime). She’s a great boss and friend, and absolutely kills it in SENIOR YEAR! Love you Rebs!”
