Jamie Foxx describes The Burial
“A great American story.”
Datari Turner discusses The Burial
“I want people to be entertained while watching the film, but also understand why it’s important not to judge a book by its cover,”
“Friends and allies can come in all different packages, so keep your eyes open.”
Amanda Warren discusses The Burial
“I think the challenge we face, as a global community, is really looking at each other and
embracing our differences.”
“It’s nice to have these kinds of poignant stories that can be somewhat of a catalyst to getting our spirits moving in the right direction where we can look at each other and embrace those differences.”
Pamela Reed discusses The Burial
“There’s so much heart in this film and also, some laughter”
“Within all of that, I hope people will go away knowing their country is a little better.”
Mamoudou Athie discusses The Burial
“This film is a retelling of a story about humanity versus capitalism in America. But it’s also very full, very fun and funny, with a lot of heartwarming moments and performances.”
Maggie Betts discusses The Burial
"The movie felt like a really fun opportunity to play with and subvert the more traditional
notion of a courtroom drama.”
“Particularly all those melodramatic, cheesy ones from the 80s and 90s. To do this, I first made sure that the story closely followed all of the most formulaic story beats that are so indicative to the genre. But then at the same time, I also wanted to give the film a slightly self-conscious quality while it's doing this. As if it's both fully adhering to all the rules of the genre, while at the same time subtly aping them in all these funny little ways. "
Bobby Shriver discusses The Burial
“In this moment in our country, I like the idea that a lot of different types of people can come
together to make a difference.”
“It doesn’t matter if there are men, women, black or white or if you’re a Floridian or from Mississippi, you can build a team and get things done.”
Tommy Lee Jones discusses The Burial
“The work speaks for itself, but what I hope people take away would be a fresh look at one
another, regardless of race.”
“Racism, and the insidious ways it undermines our lives, is an important theme in this film. The glory of overcoming those handicaps is also apparent.”
The Swimmers Working Title Films Netflix My Rating 6/10 #whatonwhatsgood Fan Club Rating 65% #whatonwhatsgood The Swimmers Express Review There's a war in Syria and Syrian swimmer Yusra Mardini (Nathalie Issa) and her sister, Sara (Manal Issa) decided they needed to leave. The film is really about survival. Can these girls really make it to Germany without being harmed? What will they need to do to get out of Syria safely? Overall, I think director Sally El Hosaini's' The Swimmers' did a fantastic job of telling this inspirational, heartfelt, and emotional true story. The film really shows what Yusra and Sara had to overcome along the way. The only flaw I saw in the movie was that I thought they rushed Yusra's journey to make it to the 2016 Rio Olympics. Missing: Dead or Alive? Blast Films Netflix #whatonwhatsgood Express Review Missing: Dead or Alive? follows a female-led missing persons unit as they work on cases from 2019 to 2021. The missing person cases included Lorraine Garcia, Amirah Watson, David Taylor, and Sierra Stevens. Overall, the show is decent. It felt a bit staged at times. It wasn't my favourite true crime series of the year, but it's worth watching if you need something to watch. Boston Strangler 20th Century Studios, Scott Free Productions, LuckyChap Entertainment Hulu Release date March 17, 2023 Description Loretta McLaughlin was the reporter who broke the story of the Boston Strangler. Along with reporter Jean Cole, McLaughlin challenged the sexism of the era, pursuing the story at personal risk and uncovering corruption that cast doubt on the identity of the strangler. #whatonwhatsgood Express Review The Boston Strangler murdered 13 women in the Boston, Massachusetts area in the 1960s. The Boston Strangler movie follows Loretta McLaughlin (Keira Knightley) and fellow reporter Jean Cole (Carrie Coon) who are trying to get the story out about who is doing these crimes. Unfortunately, they are met with many challenges from men in order to tell their narrative. Boston Strangler is a decent film. I like the pairing of Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon. Black Ice First Take Entertainment, Uninterrupted Canada, Black Ice Productions Elevation Pictures Release date September 10, 2022 Black Ice #whatonwhatsgood Express Review (by: Jovin Tardif) In Hubert Davis's Black Ice, amateur and professional players discuss the racist abuse they faced while playing hockey. Hockey players talk about moments with fans, opponents, and coaches. In one instance in the film, Akim Ali shared an experience with his former coach Bill Peters. The coach came into the locker room when he heard music from Lil Wayne playing in the locker room. Peters came over aggressively to turn off the music. When Akim admitted that he was playing the music, Bill said a racial slur in front of some of the team. The documentary also has others like P.K. Subban, Make Dumba, Wayne Simmonds, Saroya Tinkerm, Mark Connors, and others discussing their struggles and experiences with racism and/or racist language. Black Ice Directed by Hub...
