In How I Met Your Father on Hulu, future Sophie (Kim Cattrall in 2050) is telling her son the story of how she met his father.  It all started in 2021 Sophie played by Hilary Duff and her friends are trying to figure out love and life.  In my opinion, it's best to treat this as a new story instead of comparing it to "How I Met Your Mother".
