#whatonwhatsgood Express Review (by: Jovin Tardif)

Sing (Illumination) came out in 2016.  This is the sequel to that movie

Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) has big dreams for the group.  He is hoping to bring them to Redshore City - the entertainment capital of the world.

He is hoping to have their own show but they will have to convince the media mogul of Crystal Entertainment Jimmy Crystal (Bobby Cannavale) before that can happen.

Buster made a promise to Crystal that he will produce a sci-fi show featuring legendary rock star Cal Calloway (Bono).  He has not been seen in 15 years.

Can Ash (Johannsson) and Buster convince Galloway to perform at the show?

It's an easygoing film.  You can just sit and relax while listening to multiple pop songs.
I think Miss Crawley (Garth Jennings) is the funniest character in this animation film.

Sing 2 LA Premiere 12/12/2021

Edge and Bono who voices Clay Calloway discuss Sing 2

"This is the story of a lion who's lost his roar.  Grief can either open up a voice or it can shut things down."

Eric André who voices Darius discusses Sing 2

"It's important for people that have low self-esteem, or people that feel unseen or marginalized to persevere in the face of adversity.  It's been a rough couple of years. I want people to walk away feeling better about humanity."

Garth Jennings who voices Miss Crawly discusses Sing 2

"These characters are trying to put on a show that will bring their audience joy.  I want people to leave with that, having had the most beautiful time."

Matthew McConaughey who voices Buster Moon discusses Sing 2

"We've had 2 years of people's dreams getting squashed. In 2 years, people have just been trying to keep their heads above water and survive.

Everyone's got a different talent. Everyone's got a specific talent.  You got different independent components that do what they do really well.  And if everyone does their job really well, then you can make some magic happen."

Nick Kroll who voices Norman discusses Sing 2

"The first film was great. In the second one, we have Bono, Pharrell, Halsey, Bobby Cannavale, Chelsea Peretti, and Eric Andre.

The movie is about big dreams and taking chances. I think that this film is also about working together. Whether you're in show business or not is it's about finding your group of people that you really can depend on.  Together you can make anything happen."

Reese Witherspoon who voices Rosita discusses Sing 2

"This movie is so joyful and such a touchstone for so many families.  They've watched it over and over again. The fact that we get to go back and recreate these characters, have even more fun and make more music and bring in amazing musicians like Bono, Pharrell, and Halsey is just incredible.

It's been a really rough time for a lot of people all over the world.

There's so much beauty and so many wonderful things in the world to celebrate. Especially friends and friendship. I've known a lot of these people for a really really long time like Matthew and Scarlett."

Scarlett Johansson who voices Ash discusses Sing 2

"We're so excited to send out the message to believe in yourself.  I think it's also a movie about overcoming your own personal obstacles. Believing in yourself is a part of it. That's what allows you to overcome those obstacles. It's important for kids to see that."

Tori Kelly who voices Meena discusses Sing 2

"The last film was my very first-time voice acting. To be able to get the opportunity to come back and voice this amazing character again is pretty surreal.

I think we all could use a little bit of joy and singing and dancing and laughter in our lives."

Sing 2  AFI Fest Premiere 11/14/2021

Director Garth Jennings who also plays Miss Crawly discusses Sing 2

"We started talking about halfway through Sing 1. Wouldn't it be wonderful if our characters went to this place?  Went to the next level? It would be amazing to see the cast of Sing try to pull off something of that scale and still have the heart and soul that they're known for.

The first movie I had never made in an animated film before.  I learned so much from the first one.

The cast on this film is ridiculous. You always start off with a dream cast in your head but you think, we probably won't get them...and then we got them.

I hope audiences have a glorious time.  A truly wonderful time.  I want people to have a wonderful experience."

Tori Kelly who plays Meena discusses Sing 2

"I remember being at the premiere of the first film.  You hear the whispers of a second one.   It's just an honor to be a part of this. We have an amazing cast that includes Bono, Pharrell, and Halsey.

They add such an amazing lift to the movie.

Pharrell and I get to sing together in this movie. It was a dream come true.

There's so many different messages behind the film.  I think one of them is to never stop dreaming.

I think what's really amazing about this movie is that they're still pursuing a dream.  But now it's together.

They're in this group and they have each other's back.

It's heartwarming and touching. You can't really achieve everything without your support system (your family and your friends) It means so much more when they're there with you."
